Handmade Burlap Bags

Local Brand from Boston

The next time you go grocery shopping, bring us with you. We have crafted beautiful bags from high quality, eco-friendly burlap and cotton to carry your groceries and more. Each bag is handmade with love and care, so you are also bringing a bit of us with you when you shop.

In 2019, my mom discovered a Te-Phan orphanage in our home town. Many parents had to abandon their children born with serious illnesses and disabilities. The children in the orphanage might have disabilities blind, mute, deaf, or have Down syndrome. Vietnam is one of the poorest countries in the world, and low-income parents often cannot afford the treatments that their children need, and have no choice but to put them in an orphanage.

Te-Phan orphanage has limited funds, and as much as my mom wanted to help them, there wasn’t enough that she could do alone.

Bobu started out as a fun project in 2020. First , We named it as Groceries and Shit, and didn’t know how many more bags we would create. Since then, Bobu has grown substantially, and surprisingly we are currently working with our seamstresses on our 4th collection of bags.

I realized that I could use my bags to make a difference in these children’s lives. The proceeds from our new bag will help Te-Phan orphanage take care of children in need.

In an effort to help those in need, 100% of our profits go to disadvantaged orphaned children in Vietnam.

And I hope some of you might join me in the journey helping those children a life that they are deserved.

I thank you for making the world a better place.

Love,

Thu Nguyen

The idea of making bags came to me one day when I went to buy groceries. The store that I always go to in Boston had decided to stop giving away plastic bags. I wouldn't mind paying the ten cents they charge for a paper bag, but they simply don’t work. It does not matter how strong the paper bags are, they are just not meant for groceries. I could hardly make it half-way home without them ripping apart. Also, what’s the point of “saving the planet” by using paper instead of plastic, considering trees are cut down to make paper bags? There is also a tremendous amount of paper that never gets recycled anyhow. So, I decided to create a beautiful and very strong bag to comfortably and safely carry my groceries, and more, home. My fashion choices are always simple and classic, yet still capable of drawing people's attention. For Bobu, I have combined the best quality, most durable, reasonably-priced material on the market with a classic and sophisticated design to create my practical and very fashionable bags.
